Look up the phrase “opposites attract” in the dictionary, and you’ll see a photo of my wife and I sitting in a bar in Osaka falling in love at our first meet-up.

I was a 6’ 3” gaijin teaching English in Osaka and Kyoto, my wife a 5’ 5” Osaka-born commercial artist and illustrator. She hated computers and I loved anything techy.

Till this day, she has never used Photoshop, and when she draws, she still uses a collection of those plastic curvy stencil things, and what I think they used to call “art supplies” – you know, pens, paper, paint and whatnot. Me, I have three monitors on my desktop and a 48” version mounted to the wall.

But it works. I guess love really does concur all.

So here we are, my wife and I sitting across from one another at the dinner table, a microcosm of the debate over AI generated art, deciding how to incorporate this new technology into Otaku Tribes.

At least we had one common starting point, we both have always had absolute respect for artist, their talents, and their intellectual property.  And with that guiding us like an Okinawan Sakishima Beacon, it was now time to get to work.

At Otaku Tribes, you won’t find AI generated Pokémon cards, or any One Piece character rip-offs – no copyrighted characters of any kind.  You’ll find a heathy blending of hand and pixel artwork turned into cool products that you can be proud to wear and use.

That’s our commitment to the Otaku community.
